The song “I don’t want to miss a thing” by Aerosmith – Rodolfo’s goosebump moment

(text video)

“Hi! This is Rodolfo from Monaco. My goosebump moment is about the time I sang Aerosmith’s song, “I don’t want to miss a thing” to my daughter for the first time. I was holding her in my arms and she wouldn’t go to sleep, she was feeling bad. She had a fever and I started just rocking her in my arms and singing to her that particular song and, somehow, she just calmed down a little bit and I just started… I remember that tears started to come out of my eyes. At this moment I understood actually the lyrics of the song and the feeling that was involved. I mean, I knew that Steven Tyler dedicated the song to his daughter, but that was the moment I actually understood what he meant with that song, and it was just beautiful, beautiful.”

The story behind the song

‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’ is undoubtedly one of Aerosmith’s most popular songs, and although it was released more than 20 years ago, we still hear it on radio stations, and many have it added to their playlist.

The song was written by songwriter Diane Warren, who has done other songs that have been labeled as romantic, among them ‘Because You Loved Me’ by Céline Dion or ‘Unbreak My Heart’ by Tono Braxton, as well as ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’ by Starship.

‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’ was written exclusively for the movie Armageddon. Producers immediately began to look for who could interpret the song. It was then when Steven Tyler received a call from producer Jerry Bruckheimer to ask him if he wanted to record some songs for the soundtrack of the film, including ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’.

In his book, Steven Tyler said that when he first heard the song, he listened to it in his car and liked it, but he felt that something was missing in the chorus and that it was not Aerosmith’s style, and that the person who had recorded the song wanted to sound like Céline Dion.
On the other hand, Joey Kramer, drummer of Aerosmith, was not so convinced that the song would be part of the band’s career.

Finally, Steven Tyler met with Diane Warren and upon hearing her sing ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing’, was convinced to record it.

The success of ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’

After being part of the soundtrack of Armageddon, the song was such a success that it reached the first place in the Billboard chart and remained in this position for many weeks. It was even nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscar Awards.

Several years after its release, it remains one of Aerosmith’s most iconic songs that marked the group’s career.

Who inspired the romantic song?

According to Diane Warren, she was once watching an interview with Barbra Streisand and her husband James Brolin. It was he who said in that talk that sometimes he missed the singer a lot even when they were asleep. That phrase made the composer put her hands to work to create ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing’. There is even a verse in one part of the song that refers to what Streisand’s husband said.
