The movie “The Blind Side” – Manuel’s goosebump moment
“Hello! My name is Manuel and I am from Angola. My goosebump moment was when I watched a movie called “The Blind Side”. It is about the life story of a professional American football player and it shows how he grew up and how his household was. I saw a lot of difficulties in his life and a lot of struggles and a lot of like barriers, blocking him from advancing in life. But luck struck him in life and he found himself with a wealthy family that took care of him, even though they did not know him, they trusted him and they brought him into their lives and they helped him and they built him up and in the future he had a successful career. What shocked me most about this movie is that it showed me that there is still good in the world and that is why I really liked it and that is why it was my goosebump moment.”
A gesture of generosity
Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw and Oscar-winner Kathy Bates star in “The Blind Side,” a film from Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures that tells the incredible true story of soccer star Michael Oher.
Teenager Michael Oher survives on his own and is virtually homeless when Leigh Anne Tuohy discovers him on the street. Learning that the young man is a classmate of her daughter’s, Leigh Anne insists that Michael, who is wearing shorts and a T-shirt in the dead of winter, get off the streets. Without a moment’s hesitation, she invites him to spend the night at her house. What begins as a gesture of generosity turns into something more as Michael becomes part of the Tuohy family despite their very different backgrounds.
In his new environment, the teenager faces entirely new challenges to overcome. But with the help of his new family, Michael realizes his full potential, both on and off the field. Michael’s presence in the Tuohy’s life also leads him to discover a lot about himself.
What does this film teach us?
An impossible dream is a reflection that anything can happen when you least expect it, and that generous people willing to help those in need can have unimaginable consequences.
John Lee Hancock directs and signs this film based on the novel “The Blind Side” by Michael Lewis. The film presents us with an unfortunately very common situation. A child or adolescent without guardianship or direction who refuses all the help that is offered to him. However, it is also common to find behind each of these stories people with infinite liberality and kindness.
Unfortunately, the actions of parents inevitably and immediately have repercussions for their children. In this case the mother of the protagonist has a drug addiction. Therefore, she has difficulty taking proper care of her son. The adolescent, as expected, feels confused. This confusion is a direct consequence of the vital moment he is going through, in addition to the lack of a figure to guide him in that diffuse age.
The film centers on the relationship between Michael Oher and Leigh Tuohy. They are, undoubtedly, the protagonists of this story and on them falls the weight of the message that Hancock wants to convey to the viewer. In the first place, the most important lesson that can be learned from “A Possible Dream” is, as the Spanish title indicates, that any dream can become a reality.
The second message we can extract from the film has to do with generosity. Tuohy, played excellently by Sandra Bullock, acts with generosity towards this young man. A young man she finds on the street with nowhere to turn.
It is from that moment that the miracle begins to take shape. The most important thing, in this and other similar stories, is the moment when a person with so much to offer decides to take care of a young man who, despite his extraordinary talent, is lost.
Sandra Bullock’s Oscar
Sandra Bullock was awarded an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her excellent performance in “The Blind Side”, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Although the film does not carry a direct or explicit Christian message, it does so implicitly, and connects especially with this audience. The protagonist family takes their children to an evangelical school and uses a Bible verse as a motto.
Sandra Bullock explained that she was initially reluctant to play the role of Leigh Anne, Michael’s foster mother, because she had a negative view of Christians.
