The book “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle – Vanesa’s goosebumpmoment
Vanesa: “Hello, my name is Vanesa and I’m from Slovakia. My goosebumpmoment was probably when I read the book called “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle, and, I’m just gonna say this book really changed my whole life and I wish I read it earlier, because basically this book changed my whole perspective on how to enjoy the present moment and stop worrying about the past, or stop worrying about what’s gonna happen in the future. Because literally all we have is now and we should just focus on, you know, the things that bring us more in the present moment, in the now. Because, future is just an illusion and even in the past when something happened, it happened in the now, and the things that are gonna happen in the future are gonna happen in the now. So we could just focus on this, on the present moment and I recommend this book to everyone.”
Reflecting on our present
The book “The Power of Now” leads us to reflect on our present. This is what its author, the writer and renowned spiritual master, Eckhart Tolle, states, who affirms that the present is the only time that exists and the one that makes our fulfillment possible.
Through this book we learn more about what the author thinks about the ego and human consciousness. With “The Power of Now” we learn to be present and to get rid of the drama inherent in the past and the future.
What is “The Power of Now” about?
Many of us spend our time trapped in the past filled with regret or anxious about a future we cannot hope to control. Yet, at the same time, we also cling to the hope that somehow we can improve our lives, be happier and find enlightenment, even though we have no clear idea how to do so.
In “The Power of Now”, Eckhart Tolle offers readers several methods for navigating the complex terrain of their inner lives and their relationships with the past, present and future.
At the heart of Tolle’s philosophy is an emphasis on living in the present moment as a way to avoid most of the pain we tend to experience. This book focuses on the connection between the mind and suffering, offering a variety of perspectives on the many self-destructive ways we use our minds, for example, to trap ourselves in cycles of suffering and avoid being happy.
“The Power of Now” has helped millions of people improve their lives, including their relationships with others, increase their self-esteem and engage fully with their lives.
Who is Eckhart Tolle?
Eckhart Tolle is a German writer living in Canada. He is known for titles such as “The Power of Now” and “A New Earth”. His given name is Ulrich Tolle.
After passing through a Buddhist temple in Glastonbury at the age of 29, Tolle experienced what he considers a spiritual transformation that marked the beginning of his work as a counselor and spiritual teacher. Since 1996 Tolle has lived in Vancouver, British Columbia.
He claims to have experienced a spiritual awakening after long periods of depression and near suicide. After the “enlightenment”, he abandoned his doctoral thesis at the University of London, and because he didn’t have a job, he slept many nights on the benches of Hampstead Heath.
He spent several years as a vagabond and jobless, in a state of deep inner peace, before becoming a spiritual teacher, after which he moved to Canada. His essay “The Power of Now” emphasizes the importance of being aware of the present moment so as not to get lost in thought.
In his opinion, the present is the gateway to a heightened sense of peace. He states that “Being Now” entails an awareness that is beyond the mind, an awareness that helps to transcend the “pain-body” that is created by identification with the mind and ego.
His latest book, “A new earth” explores the structure of the human ego and how it acts to distract people from their present experience in the world. He has also written “Silence Speaks” and “Practicing the Power of Now”.
