Remote work – Rolien’s goosebump moment

(text video)

Rolien: “Hi, I am Rolien Nases and I am from Namibia. My goosebump moment was when I discovered remote work. At the end of 2020 I lost my job as a teacher. I was devastated. I didn’t know what to do. Because being the eldest child means that you have to fend for the family. After a few encounters with some friends, I discovered remote work and I decided to give it a try. When I landed my first job, the wording of the job made it seem like it was something foreign to me, but as the client explained the task to me, it became so much easier. And after six months I can say that remote work has saved me and my family.”

What is remote work?

Telecommuting is a flexible form of work organization that consists in the performance of professional activity without the physical presence of the worker in the company during a significant part of his working hours. It encompasses a wide range of activities and can be performed on a full or part-time basis.

The professional activity in teleworking involves the frequent use of electronic information processing methods, and the permanent use of some means of telecommunication for contact between the teleworker and the company.

The benefits of remote work

Remote work allows the employee to reconcile family life with work, favoring the worker’s happiness by giving him/her greater freedom. It also improves the employee’s quality of life by reducing stress.

It provides greater time flexibility for the worker, generates a reduction in expenses by not having to take meals outside the home and it avoids travel costs.

It also increases worker productivity by allowing better management of working time and increases the ability to concentrate as there are fewer interruptions.

The importance of remote work in times of the corona virus

All businesses are susceptible to unexpected interruptions in their operations. The causes are many and varied, from power outages to natural disasters. Thanks to digital transformation, work should no longer be just a place we go to, but an activity we do, almost always, leveraging technology.

Remote or flexible work has grown rapidly in recent times and is essential for companies to remain operational and for their employees to access the applications and data they need to work productively from any device, location and connectivity, as if they were in the office.

However, the success of this model depends on its correct implementation and the openness of each entity to its adoption. Therefore, planning its incorporation, having the right technology and training staff to work under flexible modalities is becoming increasingly important.
