My first driving experience – Milki’s goosebump moment

(text video)

“Hello! My name is Milki, I am from Ethiopia. I am going to talk about my goosebump moment, which was my first driving experience. So, I was with my boyfriend, we were walking out of a park, and we went into the car, and he said, “Have you ever tried driving?” And I said “no”, and he said, “Maybe you should try it”. And I was like, “No way! I am not going to try it.” But he kept on insisting and he just knew, he just swapped seats with me. And I was like, behind the wheels and the engine was already on and I do not even remember what I did, but I almost hit a curve, but I did not. It was all a rush and I remember everything clearly and he was giving me directions and how to do things and I was trying to be so focused, so attentive, and so terrified. And he was like, “Wow you were so terrified, but you did great because you did not hit anything”. And we went around, you know, to some place, and you know, we just stopped. So, yeah, that was my goosebump moment.”

Learning to drive a car, a rewarding experience

Learning to drive is the first step to the freedom of being able to drive somewhere, without depending on others to take us from one place to another. Many people dread the moment when they sit in the driver’s seat for the first time.

While it is certain that you will make mistakes in the beginning, you will see that with time and practice you will improve your skills more and more, until you become an expert behind the wheel. If you can’t afford or don’t want to pay for a driving school, a trusted family member or friend can be your driving teacher.

Tips for driving a car for the first time

The freeway is often a terrifying place for inexperienced drivers, driving at speeds above 100 kilometers per hour can seem extremely dangerous and nerves at the wheel can be truly treacherous.

However, there are always those plans with friends to travel to the beach or somewhere wonderful, where you can spend a nice weekend with your friends, and so you will have to face your fear and have the courage to go out and drive on those highways.

In this case the highway is usually a very pleasant place to drive, since they have very low levels of traffic, so you will have a wide space to enjoy your car at your disposal, which will help when you go out to these places, because demanding a little more from the engine always loosens the components.

If you are a novice driver and it is your first time, here is a list of how to drive your first kilometers on the highway without risks. You will see that you will quickly get used to it and you will be able to enjoy that longed-for trip with your partner, family, or friends.

It might seem unimportant, but choosing a good day for driving on the highway could make things easier for you. As a recommendation we suggest that you choose a Tuesday or Wednesday, especially in the morning, because these days few people usually use the highways, and traffic is extremely relaxed, plus if you choose to leave after working hours, you will also find a quiet city.

How to overcome the fear of driving

For some people, driving can be a relaxing and enjoyable experience if the necessary measures are taken. While this is true in many cases, for others the opposite may be true. Being behind the wheel causes some to experience intense fear. This can be triggered by a bad experience, or they may even experience it despite never having driven before.

However, this does not mean that you will never drive again or that you cannot buy a vehicle, leave home and travel in your own car.

If you experience an intense fear of being behind the wheel, you may suffer from Amaxophobia. This means fear of driving, something that anyone could experience. The most common symptoms are: sweating, increased heart rate, chest pain, nausea, and shortness of breath.

Aside from these symptoms, a person with Amaxophobia will probably find excuses not to drive. He or she may also experience panic attacks while driving. There are many ways a person can develop Amaxophobia. The most common cause may be triggered after being involved in an accident.

Accidents that trigger this fear are usually those in which the victim thought his or her life was at high risk. Other causes may be related to accidents in which a passenger, or a loved one, is killed or seriously injured.
